Thread: S2a Carbi

The Zenith 36IV from a SIII has been the most reliable & simplest Land Rover carby I've used. Maybe worth considering this one too.

The three carburetters fitted to this engine were (in order) Solex, Zenith and Weber. The differences between them are marginal, and most accounts of dramatic improvements when changing are comparing a worn out carburetter with a new one. As Michael 2 comments, the Zenith is probably the pick of them, but all perform well in good condition. Exotic carburetters can improve performance, mainly by the associated changes to the manifold, but the downside is likely to be problems with steep slopes and the need to mess with linkage etc.

I would be inclined to overhaul the existing carburetter.
