    300TDI Question

Another question. As this is the first diesel i have ever owned i have no idea how to get to top dead centre to remove my vacum pump to repair.
I can't see any timming marks on the crank pulley and theres no spark plug to take out to see if the pistons at top.
What is the easist way to do this, as $450 for a new pump is out of the question right now.

I would just unbolt it and then before you refit it check the location of the cam lobe before replacing.

Ive pulled mine out twice and never worried about anything being at top dead center

For later use - Take out the wading plug from the bottom of the bellhousing, and with the help of a torch and an assistant, look for the notch in the flywheel. TDC only makes taking the vac pump off easier, not impossible. Before you put it back on, feel with fingers to see if the cam is retracted or not, and rotate accordingly.
