Great photos.....and as you say the real-life results are heaps better!!!

I've done the same sort of up grade using ARB wiring loom and relays......and got the same sort of amazingly better results!;)

What you can do now is swap the bulbs themselves for 90 Lo/130 Hi type for an even better view of the road like I've got now.....and some 100 Watt Spots for long distance!;)

So are you saying that the headlight reflectors are made of glass?

If they are plastic I would have thought the heat generated would damage the surface and your light would loose their effectiveness very quickly.

So the question is..are the reflectors glass or plastic?

Disco1 and 2 up to the 2001 update are all glass and metal as are all RR's [Classic, P38a's ] up to 2001, so can handle the high heat, as can all Series, and Defenders.;)

I'm sure the lights in my 99D2 were not glass. Anyway, the reflectors tarnished/dulled with std globes from using them all the time (daylight). It had only done 175k (4 yrs) before it was sold.

I have been thinking about putting high wattage globes in but was not sure whether the reflectors were glass or not. As my '99 D2 has the Traxide upgrade I would like a bit more light out on the highbeam side.

Now I know it can be done...thanks :D

The whole wiring kit which you just plug in [ you could call it plug'n'play!!] and screw the relay's bracket and fuses block to the car was $128 at Graham Cooper's;)

I thought it was exceptionally well made and I couldn't have made the whole thing up myself for much less than about $100 , cause they use diode protected relays.......was very impressed with PRODUCT and PRICE! ;) :) :) :) :) :)

The lenses of these models : RR Classics-ALL;P38a-ALL;Disco 1-ALL; Disco 2-up to 2001 update i.e. those whose front end and headlamps are not designed to look like the then new 2001 release RR L322........these all have GLASS lenses and the reflectors are metal or glass and can withstand the high heat output of HIGH WATTAGE globes.;)

Models with PLASTIC/POLYCARBONATE etc headlamp components can use an alternative QI globe such as:

IPF's Xenon Gas "Fat Boy" Super Low Beam Globes [ARB Part No. X51HC] which are 60 Hi/80 Lo Watts but are the Optical Equivalent of 150 Hi/190 Lo
or

IPF Cobalt Quartz "Maximum Performance" Globe [ARB Part No. M17HC] which are of 60 Hi/55 Lo Watts but are the optical equivalent of 130 Hi/110 Lo

Both of the Globe Types above CAN be used with standard wiring systems [i.e. WITHOUT UPGRADED LOOMS];)

Their only drawback being quite high costs [Cobalt type $145 per pair, Fat Boy type $152 per pair] and perhaps difficulty rapidly sourcing replacements when needed quickly, outside major centres balanced against common various High Wattage types, say 130 Hi/ 90 Lo Conventional QI H4 costing as little as $12-15 each depending on brandname (or not!!);)
