    radiator split

Hi everyone i've been reading other landrover forums for quite a while and thought it was about time i signed up to one,the information and topics of discussion are great.Anyway my question is, it appears that my radiator is split/leaking from the lower drivers side on my recently purchased td5 ,if it needs to be replaced what is the best course of action to take ie: can it be recored or do i need a new radiator and if so do i get a factory original or is their an after market solution available? all replies would be greatly appreciated.

I had mine recorred. Cost me as much as a new one from Sydney but still a coupe of hundred less than the prices in Canberra. Spent $666 on it. NATRAD did mine and it was the first one they had seen. I know there are two radiators for the TD5 one is $880 and the other is $1100 through the dealers!
That lower section should be the fuel cooler section of the radiator. There are diferent zones that are activated as things heat up.

Wouldn't the radiator come under warranty or did you purchase privately?

If it was through a dealer, hit them with the changeover as they should have checked the Td5 over anyway.

If not, it depends on how much coolant you would be loosing. The radiators are weak and appear to seep than to be totally split. There are many stories around of just small leaks from the radiator with a coolant loss of up to 300ml a week. My radiator has this problem and I recently threw in a bottle of radiator stop leak and have not seen a drop of coolant. The coolant level is staying constant now so the stop leak is working.

The reason I put a bottle of goo in is that eventually I will replace the radiator, intercooler and chip it all in one hit (Tombraider..get on with it!) It's a big bill but I only want to pull it apart once and once only!

    Cheers.

before you goo the radiator how does the goo react with the OAT coolant, you don't want corosion of your cooling system and blown head gaskets

What Feral said. In a Disco Td5, it is about a 5 hour mission, especially if it is an auto.....Do it onc, and do it right. I wouldn't be using stop leak more than once, as the tubes aren't real large andd can block up...
A new Rad is only about $600 or so from LR.

just replaced mine at rad works in capalaba. cost around 930.00 for new one fitted.not worth repairing as labour costs are high due to typical lr trick of making a normal job dam near impossible. Mine was weeping lower left side.
    cheers.
