    Intercoolers and ECU chipping

I'm looking at chipping my TD5 to give it a bit more oooommmmppppfffff. I'm still looking at whats around. I know Bruce Davis's chipping comes highly recomended and that some members of the forum do similar things. Can I get some input from persons who have various ones installed to help me make a choice.

    ALSO

I am told that an upgrade in intercooler will give even more bang for the buck. Opinions re this as well if you can and who supplies upgraded turbo kits for a 110 TD5 (1999 build)

    thanks

Just fitted one of Tombraider's intercoolers, already have the BD chip. I'll let you know how it goes when I get my vehicle back.

BTW I think with a '99 model you have the non-flashable chip?

    Hi Drut
Non Flashable but still can be chiped. As far as I know you get an exchange ECU then get it coded to suit your injectors,or get your ECU chipped and re-fitted,just means the vehicle is off the road a bit longer.

I would suggest cleaning its throat first, by removing your mufflers/cat and going for a 3" pipe. Apart from making a lovely tune, it allows the turbo to spool up quicker and removes some low-end lag.

If you go further, I would be going for the larger intercooler and then the ECU remapping as the last option. At thesame time I would be fitting an EGT to keep a close eye on the temps.

Like a couple of others on here, I have had trouble with my BD chip which has not really been solved (low range surging, and too much black smoke). I will be getting one of Tombraiders remaps when I get my act in order.

I have one of tombraiders intercoolers and it has been great.

I have a 3" stainless system with a lukey (i think) sports muffler already which has opened things up. Why the intercooler 1st before chipping the ECU?? And whats EGT. ?? As you can tell I'm no mechanic.

I'm leaning the way of Tombraiders intercooler as I've heard a lot of good reports on the forum. will give him a call in the next few weks once the new year madness has died down and get his input. I'm a firm believer in getting many opinions and then weighing up the pros and cons of what is available.

EGT = Exhaust Gas Temps, very important when trying to not to cook the diesel motor.
