Apart from locking tab washers, outer gaskets & grease, & assuming there is nothing wrong inside, is there any other bits I should know about before I tackle it? Things sound fine, but it has been a while since they were done.

Are the locking tabs the same as the Series 2A tabs?

If you're just checking & adjusting, that's pretty much all you'll need other than some thread lock on the bolts. If you're going to dismantle, you'll have to replace the oil seal on the back of the hub (where it sits on the stub axle).

Had the same problem with my defender ended up replacing rear drive flanges and axles , fixed my problem by tacking the seal out of the axle tube behind the stub axle allowing the diff oil to find its way into the bearings and drive flange just like the series models which I never came across this problem in
