I don't have pics but yes the plastic accustic cover needs to come off. At the front on the drivers side you will see the plug going into the rocker cover from underneath.

    Hi Fatcat
Im the one that did the metho rinse on my Disco2.
Have you fitted a new injector harness yet???? Easy job for a basic home mechanic. You need to do this first as it will keep contaminating the loom.
Get a 600ml coke bottle drill a 4mm hole in the lid and screw a 4mm retic riser adaptor into it,you then have the option of adding a retic riser tube or using it as is.
I poked the fitting into the harness next to the head, leaving the loom connected as the main volume of oil causing the problem is now travelling outside the wires wheras its travelled inside the wires till its left the head.Hope that sort of makes sense!!!
OK back to the metho, slowly squirt 100 to 200mls at a time into the sheath protecting the loom,if you have any form of compressed air(12V tyre compressor with football inflator is good enough) blow air down the harness.I kept repeating every hour for most of the day.
There is a turbo boost sensor on the top of the intake manifold, unclip this and treat the same way.
There is a harness that comes around the front of the head,it has a plastic convoluted cover, open the split in the plastic, treat the same way.
On the Disco2 the ECU is in the engine bay so I could also treat the Red ECU plug end of the loom the same way,I guess if you remove your floormats you can treat the ECU end the same way.
As far as I know the oil doesnt get inside the ECU,despite the dealer telling me it was INSIDE mine, took the cover off when I got home, definately wasnt. You need a TAMPER PROOF TORX bit to open it.
Use metho not turps as metho dries dry not oily.
Trace the main loom that you are putting the metho in,any easy points you can unclip a connector and pump the metho in will help.On mine there were a couple of unused clips low in the harness near the sump, the oil/metho mix poured out of these.
Be carefull undoing plastic connectors, they are easy to snap the clips off.
Goodluck, the more you flush thru the better,I used 2lts 3lts would have been beter.
ALSO,leave the orange rubber seal off the ECU connector untill all your oil is gone(may take weeks) as it lets the oil out faster.
Once all the oil is gone you may need to take it to a service agent with TESTBOOK to clear the fault codes, small ones are remembered and make no difference to the ECU operation.Mine had low coolant/temp out of range, this causes the electric booster fan to run constantly and performance to be less than normal,Testbook cleared this fault and fixed the problem.
    Once again GOODLUCK.

Hi all, Ive seen a lot of info and remedies? for this oil in harness problem so as Im off on a long trip in the td5 I pulled out the ECU behind the battery and every thing was absolutely dry. The red (and black) connectors join the ecu from the side (R) , mine is a 2003 model and im wondering is this an upgrade to fix it or does the oil eventually seep upwards! through the loom to these connectors??

I would replace the injector harness before you go,at least it should put it off for a while longer.
They cost around $300,less than a hour to fit.

If you unplug the connector at the front of the engine and see oil in the plug then you know that you definitely have a problem. If there's no oil, you may or may not have a problem.

    Hi Mark
Get a few prices from a few non dealer Landrover specialists(much cheaper, same item),several advertise on this site,Karcraft are pretty good. The injector harness is inside the rocker cover,to get to it you remove the plastic sound cover then unbolt the rocker cover, simply unplug the harness fit the new one.
Then clean the main harness as I did.

    Hi All
Does anyone know how to dismantle the main plug on the engine harness as i now have a harness that i can play with i would like to see if it can be inproved. Checked the ECU to day no more oil running through. I will replace the engine harness as soon as the new one gets here.
    Regards
    Doug
