    well the legal wear limit is/was 1.5mm? but they'll be useless off road long before that, and on road too IMHO.

    re balljoint/tie rod end nuts.They do not have to be any tighter as they have a tapered seat. Much tighter and it is very difficult to separate them.
    Tyres are a personal call. IMHO tyres are not suitable for offroad much earlier than for on road. I scrapped my last ATs with about 3MM of tread.

    Yeah the tyres are no good offroad anymore, they started chipping at the beginning of last year up at lake elidon, so they are just good for on-road now, well sort of.

    Just went outside and checked the tyres out, the spare (which is still brand new!) has around 12-13mm of tread, where as all the others are around the 6-7mm, but interestingly the front right (drivers side) is lower than all the others, by 1/2mm maybe, so in the 5-6mm bracket, would this cause the pulling to the right under braking ?     Yes uneven wear will easily cause a pull. swap them left to right and see if it changes it. with luck it will drive straight, with no luck it will pull left. if it is the tyre, get the problem tyre flipped on the rim (though if you have white lettering on one side so it may look ghey) or simply match the best flattest worn ones on the front as a pair. lots of heavy sweaty work, I just rotated mine last service, big heavy b******s.

    and look at the tread blocks for hear & toe wear. try to get in the habit of rotating your tyres at 5000k to keep it in check.
