    Vlad, fairly easy job to remove the instrument panel. Screws both sides and the bottom from memory. You don't need to disconnect anything. Just pull it out and rest it on the steering column cover. Then get in and put tape around that steel support.

    Turned out there were PLENTY of shorts happening around the carppy after market (got at) wiring of the tail lights on the tray. I've now replaced the tail lights etc and had the rear loom fixed and all is well with the world (Lucas had nothing to do with the fix which is why it works!).

    Oh and did you know that the pick up for the power feed for the dashboard lighting comes from the loom at the rear of the vehicle.

    Hmm, English cars.........
