I have a box from jaycar - not too hard - but you (I) need to get a sender to put into the distributer - it's worth a look.
ill be interested to see what you get as I have the 2a.
Ill report back on it when I get the other component.
Has anyone retrofitted electronic ignition to their s2a ?
I know the USA boys love their pertronix setups.
What is availible in AUS and is it very hard ?
Cheers.

Check out the Pommie LR mags for ads for electronoc dizzys. I'm just not aware of anyone here in Oz who sells them, but can't see why they wouldn't.

I've built and retrofitted the Jaycar type electronic ignitions to lots of vehicles over the years (VW, Toyota, Vauxall, Triumph{mine}, Fords and more recently into mid 60's Mustang) They are simple to retrofit and keep the points, which don't carry any load and therefore last a very long time so that in the unlikely event of electronics failure then you can revert to conventional ignition. Don't see why it wouldn't be easy to fit to a LR engine.

is there much of a problem working out the dwell / resistor ratio?
The latest version of the Jaycar electronic ignition kit includes a simple adjustment that optimises the dwell time depending upon the coil resistance. This maximises the dwell extension without the risk of over-driving the coil and perhaps burning it out. The only thing you have to watch during installation is that you get a true 12v supply to power the unit i.e. don't try and supply power to the unit from the voltage available at the end of any ignition dropper resistor. Use this voltage only to drive the coil via the electronic ignition.Originally Posted by WilliamB

I put in a Dick Smith ignition kit into my series 3 - it uses the original points as the trigger - no load so it doesn't burn out - worked great and was easy to build and instal.
