    Which oil fiter??

Am about to do my first service on my TD5 Fender, as in, the first time I have done it and was wondering whats the go with this oil centifuge thingo.I have the Rave Cd and it doesnt seem to reference 2 oil filter elements, just the paper element under the manifold, does the centifuge have an element as well and is this an item I should service every oil change??Also while I'm here, it is the 50000km service, all others have been done by recomended repairer, what else should I be doing at this time?I am going to do the diffs and TC as well as coolant anyway for peace of mind, anything else?? Detailed instructions wriiten in crayon and lots of pictures would be most welcome, as would offering to do the job for me.

ill do the job for you.......can you drop it off tomorrow afternoon when i get home from work....?

what oil do you plan to use.....and also which coolant......?

part number for the centrifuge is ERR6299.....land rover part number......
    i change mine every service....at 5,000kms......

the centrifuge is next to the turbo......it has a couple of 10mm bolts to hold the cover on.....do not overtighten these when re-fitting......
just lift the cover off and you will see the filter......
i usually take the hoses off that are above it and that gives a heap of space to work.......

and when you put the oil in the engine...dont be in too much of a hurry to check the level.....it takes ages to get to the sump.....
which makes it easy to overfill the engine......
pour in about 6 litres of oil.....then make sure its close to the full mark on the dipstick.....
put the filler cap back on and start the engine till the oil light goes out......this will fill up the oil filters......

now.....once the oil drains back down to the sump.....you can use the dipstick to get the correct reading......
top up oil to the full mark....or just below......avoid going over.....its no good for the engine.....

Just done this recently. The Rave CD shows all the pictures and stuff under Engine- repairs and some detailed explanations in there somewhere how it all works. You definitely need a strap wrench as the space between the main filter and the block is small. There is no need to remove the engine/exhaust covers as stated in the cd but as suggested above onplug the emission return hose from the air intake as it makes it a bit easier to access the centrifuge filter. There is a large O ring sits neatly in a recess inside at the top of the cent. filter housing and I would make sure that sits in properly before replacing the top (an oilsmear would make it stick nicely). Its a pretty clean job as you access it all from the top and all the oil has drained away.
I have used Castrol Magnatech full synth 5W40 as the dealers were using it but am thinking of switching to Mobil Delvac 1 as recommended on this forum, or PM lubricants semi synth as it meets all the latest "E" specs (as well as the "B". My TC now has pretty blue Redline Lightweight Shockproof as does the diffs, a bit pricey but a long drain time.
