TD5 Fuel Pressure Regulator leaking fuel - Victory

I have been noticing lately that the puddle of water (Aircon) under my car was getting a bit greasy. Not your average oil mind you but more like diesel.

After a couple of weeks of hunting this down I have tracked it to the fuel pressure regulator (pre EU3 model). In the past I have had the fuel return line come adrift completely (expensive loss of fuel only) but this was new.

Has there been any other experiences of this out there?

Does anyone know of any seal kits available for these?

    Thanks

I broke mine during the rebuild. Had it welded in Canberra as the only other option was to buy a new one. Has worked a treat since. Most people wouldn't touch it but I new the guy and was willing to lose it if things went wrong. What part of it is leeking? as on the TD5 there is the gasket to the block and the two lines and thats it. The gasket isn't to expensive at all.

    Hi Ekolsim
NO FIX,got to bite the bullet and get a new one.Dont go to the stealer, get prices from the non dealer specialists that advertise here,or others, you will pay 1/2 stealer rate.
MAKE SURE YOU GET THE MATCHING GASKET.The replacement reg for the early TD5 is an update and the original gasket wont seal it.The suplier should warn you of this.
Easy enough job to change, unless you have big fat hands like mine.

In the RAVE manual there are some 'O' rings for the pressure module. It is held in with a circlip and is in the pressure regulator housing on the AFT side. I think that this is the leaking area and would be willing to try replacing the "o" rings if a kit was available.

    Refer to items 8,9,10 & 11.

OK. Yep we were worried about destroying that part when welding mine. I was told it's not servicable but the block is worth several hundred if my memory is correct. Try some of the Sydney suppliers.

I asked about an Oring kit for mine,no kit available.I guess if you striped it and went to a shop who sells them you could try it.Mine seemed to be leaking from the end of a relief type valve, possibly that item no10.

These regulator failures are far too common. IMO LR either didn't choose the correct seals or they didn't fully specify their application to the seal/regulator supplier. My guess is that they fail because the seals are not designed for the temperature that they are subjected to due to the regulator being mounted on the head. Fuel pressure regulators in other vehicles are a lifetime item, not a consumable, but they're not usually mounted on the engine either.

Just a pet hate of mine. I'd like to think that LR would have revised the seals, but I'm not hopeful.

Mine was replaced at 100,000K. 99% of the fuel I use is purchased from my local distributor and its not biodiesel, so I don't think that's a problem.

Hmmm, just had mine replaced on my 1999 D2 before Christmas by one of the stealer workshops. Ouch! Must find someplace else. Would have thought these items would last a little longer. Have just done 116,000 km.
