    Unhappy How Cold is Cold??

Ok guys saw a few of you talking about aircon and didn't want to steal someone else's thread so am postign here.
Just a quick question. This is my Fender and I's first summer in the desert and i was wondering if my aircon is working properly. The temperature outside the cab is 40-45 but the aircon will only drop the temperature of the cab down to 30-35. I keep telling the missus that its a defender and lucky to have aircon but if i could have the best of both worlds it would be great. So does it sound like my aircon is ok or should it be more effecient?. I replaced all the door seals but only made a little difference. Wouldn't trade the fender for the world but hate it when my mate rocks up in his navara and the cab is at 15 degree's (i get my own back when i snatch him out of the sand 3 times a day).
Should i get it looked at and possibly regassed and thermostat adjusted for the high temperatures out here?? or is that just how fender's are??

I find the same thing with my air con. Cools fine for a while, but on a hot day it just can't keep and needs to take a bit of a rest.

A lot of Defenders don't have an electric fan on the front of the air con radiator. One of those would make a difference.

Also could be a lot of dirt and stuff in the fins. Might need a clean.

    Cheers

Firstly the defender has a large cab to cool, and well, they are not all that air tight so cooling them is hard. However before you pop off to the air con guy, just go through a basic test. From a normal start, with the cab hot. Pop a thermometer in the air outlet on the dash - put the fan on 2 or three - then start the car/air con.

Let it run until the compressor cuts out (if it doesn't cut out that's another issue) then read the temp on the stat.

The outlet temp should be about 10 Deg C.

And as said above, make sure your condenser is free from crud - give it a thorough wash off with a hose.

Plus if you have a look at the other thread - just a few days ago, I posted a pdf file there which shows basic testing procedures.

Let me know how you get on and we can go from there

Oh and make sure it's on recirc - not fresh air.

If you have a cargo barrier you can get a plastic sheet that fits on the barrier. reduces the size of the space you are trying to cool. all out work vans had them when i was in Cairns and it made a big defference.

I think you can get the from Milford but a sheet of industrial clear plastic from a hardware will do the job.

I'm fitting one before i hit the Kimberly this year or I will have three whinging girls in the back

Sorry wasn't clear but its a dual cab 130 so no chance of a cargo barrier just a rattling window. And no chance getting recirc/ fresh mixed up as fresh comes straight in over the bonnet and recirc is with the aircon. Unless i'm missing something???.

The re-circ system is the lever left side of instrument cluster which must be in up position.
Took me a while to work that out

On the air con controls you should have a knob/switch that switches the air flow from recirc to fresh.........

..................but then again I am not sure with the Def 130

No it must have a fresh/recirc switch/knob........must do surely
