nahh it doesnt ladas. if its like mine the entire air con is internal and if you want fresh air mixed in you open a vent or turn on the heater fan.. Im serios...

theres 5 knobs/levers to control air in a defender...

2 are down by the drivers right knee and they are aircon fan speed and cooling setting

1 is a lever on the left side of the dash within finger reach of the drivers side flap control and this is the heater fan control

theres 2 on the right and they are the heater control and ducting control for the heated air (on "cool" setting this is fresh air only)

I got the best results out of my aircon (pre mods as per my other thread on aircon) by putting the heater on the cool setting, closing the vents setting the heater duct to the down position and turning on the heater fan on 1 with the aircon on flat out.

post mods I just close everything, run the aircon flat out and let the inevitable rover seal leaks draw in the fresh air.

Thanks for that Dave, well we live and learn.

So it's on recirc all the time - that's good, so TREX you just have to close the vents ............

    not necessarily......
As someone above mentioned, the ventilation controls are on the LHS of the instrument binnacle, totally seperate to the A/C controls. If the lever is in any position other than full up it is letting fresh air in.

The Defender system is an aftermarket add on, originally developed by AMC.

    Thanks Rick

I must take the time out to have a look at the various Def variants of the AC setup.

By nature of the the A/market unit in my 98 jobby its always re circ. It draws its air from the passenger side at the bottom of the unit. You should turn the heater fan off n close the intake vent. I'm in Tassie so who wnats aircon but Mrs gets a bit hot under the collar every now n again.

Yes but you are a fridgey, and you know what is going on.

Mine limits at 5*C - 'coz I don't want to freeze the evaporator.

...........but 10*C air off on a 'normal car' on a hot day, running on (crap ) R134a is the most I would expect.
