Depending on the light diesel is green to brown in colour.

Smell it... If its chip oil you can tell!

Shell dont sell Bio from company stations.

usually its really clear, like water..

but on saying that everytime i filled up in VIC for our trip it was like you said, like watered down hi lighter pen colour!

now back in NSW and its clean and clear.

the stuff in VIC wasnt bio, well i hope not, no smell, not as frothy and engine didnt suffer any power loss.

    cheers phil

The bio that I buy is bright yellow and has a distinct smell that is even close to diesel.

    Cheers

I was going to ask the same thing.

As above.....at our Shell station its a light green aswell. I did at one point get it from BP (not now, Water issue's) and it was clear, but both smell the same.

I might email Shell and see what the go is....no point asking the manger at Shell as she tried to tell me they sell alpine Diesel during the colder parts of the year here......dont think so...."Got The Gear, No Idea" ! She had no idea what alpine Diesel is anyway.....

I only buy Shell diesel from the local BP ( that will confuse some of you, but it's the truth. It also all comes direct from Singapore) and it is basically clear and smells like ... diesel.

With the Bio. Caltex is rolling out 2% Bio across the country. Discovered that little gem over the new year trip after filling up. Asked the manager about it and he said it will be the norm soon. He also assured there would be no problems and I was covered if anything went wrong.

Diesel colour varies in accordance with the manufacutures dies by batch and by type...

theres at least 2 grades of dieso (winter + summer) and who knows how many suppliers.

Its a bit like brake fliud in that respect... Ive seen different colours from the same bowser at the same servo and the explination I got was the change over from summer to winter dieso..

That would make sense - I've noticed that the diesel in VIC has a very yellow tinge to it (only of late).
