As we get our Diesel from Shell I sent them an Email last night re Colour, this what I got back:
Hi Andrew,
"The colour of Diesel fuel can vary substantially depending on a few factors. Firstly, Diesel fuel is generally a clear to straw (yellow) colour, this can vary though depending on crude oil source, processing, and also, how you look at the diesel (from above, or through it).
Diesel produced from different crude base stocks can vary from clear, through to a dark yellow or green colour.
Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel (50ppm), which has been around for a few years now, is much more highly processed, and this can have an effect on colour, including making it look green.
Finally, when looking at diesel through a glass jar, looking throught it, diesel may look a straw colour, when looking down on top of it, it may appear green. This is due to light refracting differently.
Shell do not currently supply a bio-diesel product in Australia. If we do introduce a product in the future though, it will meet all relevant Australian standards".
Kind Regards,

Well I was in shock because I got a reply so quickly. Umm I guess that sounds right![]()
In Germany, france and many other parts of europe, ALL diesel is 5% bio - made from canola. The bio has been added to solve the lubricity problems that ULSD (or is it UULSD now) has.Originally Posted by George130
Each state in OZ has 1 or 2 refineries, and all the fuel sold in that state usually comes only from those refineries - the other "brands" are supplied under product sharing agreements. So for example, QLD has Caltex and BP - BP supply shell and Caltex supply mobil and most of the independents.
And for those who don't think Australian refineries produce their own diesel:http://www.aph.gov.au/library/pubs/c.../2000cib11.htmIn 1998-99, Australian refineries produced in total 42 943.7 megalitres (ML) of marketable products of which 18 705.3 ML was petrol and 12 296.7 ML was diesel.
