Your just very lucky that very heavy paper weight didn't kill anyone if it dropped off the retaining cable.
My father is determined that I get it replaced (just had the argument about it), so is it really worth it if I dont feel any vibration? I drove home with the thing dragging, and the steering and suspension seemed fine.

Ok, Im a liar......sounded good though (Im an idiot for saying it). I found some place up over the chassis rails to hide it and somehow it stayed there. Im sorry for lying (bad influence).....
you dont Always need it, its something to do with when theres a misalignment while cornering at speed or on the flats and the front axle will shimmy. This thing cancles it out...
I pulled mine off cause of the mount dying although I spotted mine before it fully seperated..
The vibration mine seemed to cancel out felt like an orbital sander had been strapped to the steering wheel and there was a tyre like humm coming from somewhere..
the dealer in townsville spotted it in about 10 minutes.
You may not notice it if you have different rubber or other suspension issues/mods

Give it to one of ya mates with a pootrol as this is probably what they need to stop the built in stering shimmy they have
Dont listen to ya old man make up a buli5hit story to baffel him and tell him its there for transport reasons n when they were imported they were removed and must have forgot to remove it or sum cr4p you dont need it and when the new tyers go on make sure the best balenced ones go on tha front and you wont notice a thing ..

Thanks boys. I just want to make sure. I'll still be ringing my LR specialist to confirm it for my father, but at least I have you blokes backing me up. Have a good one!
Matt.
Good to know what the heck it is. Whilst under the vehicle doing oil changes etc I have often wondered what it was for and if it had been "added" by a previous owner.
It's a Vibration Damper, i removed mine because it flattened one of the extractor (exhaust) pipes while doing some serious off roading, Regards Frank
You're not the first one to be puzzled & I doubt you'll be the last.
It's one of 'those' objects that appears to do nothing, except hang there.![]()
