Don't think the clunk would be the regulator but if you have to buy one expect about $350
just reading post about fuel regulator in a td5, my 2001 td5 has a "clunk" type of noise after startup and only evident at this time it appears to be in the dasboard or high up on the fire wall. my question is could it be the regulator and how much should i be paying for one if it is any advive would be great

Does yours have ACE????
Mine makes a clunk, but usualy I only hear it on smooth surfaces at low speed.Apparentley its the ACE self testing.

Maybe just the ABS pump pressurising, if sound is infront of driver - through dash.

Just a thought, could it be the brake booster, I had it on the D1, it was sticky, and when the vac was applied it would 'clunk' back (or forward)
I'll buy into ladas's idea... although I had a fun one to find, every morning when I went to start i got a funny noise from the dash...
turned out to be the drivers side vent. When Id close em of a night they wouldnt full engage the locking mech, the vibration of the engine would shake em enough that they click into the notch..
