to put the bolts in you pop some of the mudguard inner plastic cover retaining pins, move it aside enough to get your arm in and stick your arm in and up the recess, whilst delicately balancing bolt and washer... easy peasy actually...
Hmmm... My Airflow snorkel arrived a few days ago and I'd read it was a pretty simple operation to fit so I thought I'd do it this avo. Hmmmm... just a few problems:
1. How do you bolt the snorkel body on to the guard? There are three bolts and washers supplied and the (vague) instructions tell you to drill three holes in the guard. How am I supposed to insert and tighten the bolts and washers from inside the guard?
2. The instuctions tell me to relocate the air-filter box "closer to the engine" but provide no hardware to do that. Even though the instructions tell me to use brackets provided which are not provided, and are not listed in the parts list either. My air-filter box is attached with anti-vibration rubbers into holes in the wheel arch so my bracket will have to fit the wheel arch and support the rubber mounts. Sorry but I don't have a fabrication shop in my garage.I guess I'll sort something out.
I've looked at Cookiesa's description in the Projects section but I can't work out the answer to item 1. Can someone enlighten me?

Yeah theres a bit of dicking around involved to get it right. To get to the bolts inside the guard, I removed the plastic wheel arch liner enough to get my arm up in there. As for the airbox, you'll have to fab something up. There are a couple of rubber mounts through the bottom that go thru the guard, so you just drill a couple more holes. The ones that go through the side of the aux battery tray require an extension plate so you can move it over....hope this helps Chris.
Ahah! Thanks, I'll go and hose the muck out of the wheel arch and check out the plastic liner.
Another problem is appearing though, the snorkel looks like coming through here (arrowed):
So that switch/sensor will have to be relocated.
Does anyone know what that switch is and are there any difficulties in relocating it?
hi,
Its the bonnet switch for the alarm. You shouldn't have any probs moving it as long as it gets pressed down when the bonnet closes.
Thanks njz.![]()
Once you make the hole in the inner guard you might be able to reach your hand in to bolt the snorkle to the guard, hopefully this will work as i just got a safari snorkle that i'll be fitting on the weekend.

Hah! Still working on this thing!
The exterior part is on and getting those bolts in is fun. Especially when the template is completely innacurate.Fortunately Cookiesa warned me that one of the holes was out so I lined up the template on the back of the snorkel itself. Sure enough the bolt hole nearest the 75mm hole was over 10mm out of position! Remarked the hole positions on the guard and drilled away.
For pity sake, what have I done to the Disco!
As I said fitting the bolts was fun. After the 4th or 5th fitting -since one of the holes just wouldn't line up - with my arm stuffed inside the wet muddy plastic wheel arch I was starting to feel like a Vet with a difficult calving. Finally i got them all lined up and tightened.
By a fluke it seems to be in an okay position:
Since it's about to rain I thought I'd fit the head/intake thing:
That has to be the ugliest thing I've ever seen on a Disco.
Also the slots which allow it to be clamped onto the snorkel body (arrowed) continue way up into the head so air will be drawn in there as well as from the cowl. That means even if I fitted a pre-filter, dusty air would be drawn in at the slots rendering it useless. What's the point of that?
Still to come is the interior part. NOWHERE in the instructions does it say that drilling an ~80mm hole is necessary to fit the adaptor into the guard and over the snorkel. Nor does it tell you how to waterproof it (because the instructions still talk about a flexible coupling which has obviously been discontinued). Hmmm... think I'll have a beer instead.

the prefilter clamps on instead of the air ram head that is on it now.
all the slots help let the water out when driving in rain...
you should use black urethane NOT sillastic to seal the things you want to seal..
the inside hole is easy..... or was on mine... but i dont have abs...
enjoy the beer....
