I looked into this a while back ... DBA recommend the slotted for most applications leaving cross drilled for track use etc. The slotted ones are less prone to cracking but more effective than plain discs. All of them are ventilated! I ended up putting on plain ventilated rotors from Brembo...about $40 each. they do a good job.
It's 95% marketing I'm afraid that slotted are superior to plain. But it does vary with your usage.
Slotted disc's are better for excessive hard braking, like big weights down hills regularly, or hi speed hard braking regularly, i.e race cars. Other wise the standard plain boring looking rotors work fine. I noticed on a new Bentley v12 couple the other day, the discs were plain, F and R.
Obviously people will have different points of view, and if your disc need replacing and DBA slotted are cheaper then why not. But I had two brake shops tell me that they will sell them to me if I want, and happy to take my money, but it's up to me. I had the brake system overhauled with plain aftermarket.

I bought a rear axle with slotted AND cross drilled DBA rotors, which I fitted to my 110.
I then left to do the canning, figuring the half-worn brake pads would be fine. Halfway along the canning, we got 84 mm of rain. By the end of the canning (~800km after the rain) I had no brake pads left.
When I got back to perth the mud in the cross-drilled holes was so hard I needed to drill it out.
Anyone want to swap for some standard rotors???
I fitted Cross Drilled & Slotted rotors to my RRC when I had it. The braking improved dramatically.
The only downside and DBA will tell you themselves is that the cross drilled versions may suffer from minor cracking around the drill holes if used in a lot of water. However I found mine to be fine and no problems. As mentioned a downside is thick mud can clog them, so you need to be aware of this and ensure they are kept clean otherwise pad wear will increase, but I can live with that and it is more a case of keeping them clean and hosed out. Cant say I have ever had to drill mud out and living in the Goldfields at the time we had some fairly thick clay mud on them.
