    DBA vs. OE brake discs.

i,ve heard it said that dba rotors are the dogs. so, are they really beter than oe rotors. i will replace my standard rotors with the dba slotted (solid ) versions if so. (mine are becoming glazed).

    thanks.

glazing is usually caused from overheating.....if you have vented rotors on there now.....i wouldnt be fitting solid ones.....

    what pads are you using.....?
try a different compound of pad.....it may be all you need......

do you brake normally or do you use the brakes gently for a longer period.....?

if they are glazed.....go out and give them a bit of a workout.....
get the thing up to about 60 - 80 kph then brake hard down to about 10 or 20 kph......
check your rear view mirror first......then drive for a few minutes to allow them to cool down a bit and repeat this a few times.......

it may help clean up a bit of the glazing.......

try a softer compound of pad and keep the current ones for spares......
softer pads wont last as long but they will brake better.......may also fade a bit sooner.....
but wont wear out the rotors as quickly......and.....pads are cheaper and easier to replace than rotors.....

    Go the DBA...

Fantastic rotors and far superior to OE.

And stopping in mud/water is far better than the genuine ones...

I've always ran the DBA Slotted/X drilled and would never go back to flat rotors again.

Fit a set of Bendix 4x4 pads and your set!

It would also be worthwhile upgrading to ventillated discs - you can buy (or make) a spacer kit which goes in the middle of your caliper (with longer bolts as well).

Where do you by Dba rotors from? Do you get them directly off Dba? Just wondering as i will be up for some soon.

I had a Volvo XC90 as a ppl moooover - not a fourby - but it did Big Red and Abercrombie fire trails and a lot of other stuff Iced Vovos just aren't supposed to do.
Got me a nice new D4HSE now.
The Volvo went through front rotors every 30K and I'm not heavy on brakes - I got 60K out of the firest set of tyres...
So I put ventilated (not slotted) DBAs on it and they were absolute SH1TE. They lasted forever, but I had to get them skimmed every 5-10K. They shuddered their bloody heads off. I had a BF Falcon - they skimmed the brakes every time they serviced the car and told me it was standard practice!
Maybe the upmarket DBAs are better...

Have DBA slotted solid on the front of a RRC and will be fitting same to the rear. Really notice the difference from plain. About 60,000km on them now and no probs. Using Mintex pads, which I prefer to Bendix by a mile.

Couldn't justify the change (hassle) involved with converting to vented.

    cheers, DL

I put RDA rotors (bought off fleabay) on SWMBO's Fairlane about six months ago. So far happy with them.
