Has anyone used that CEM (Cost Effective Maintenance) engine additive/flush/thing?
Its often advertised in 4wd monthly: the ad goes something along the lines of spend 107 bucks to save a 10 grand rebuild (or somehting alike?)
My friend has bought some for his car and offered me some.
What is it, just an engine flush?
Positives/negatives? Usefull/Useless?
I might let him try it out in his toyota 1st.![]()

BRILLIANT STUFF ON JAP DIESELS!!!!! I use it in our Trytoo.Jap diesels are very dirty, they glaze up easily. The Trytoo runs much better after a dose, idles smoother more power better economy.I only use it ever second service now.
I wouldnt put it in my TD5,its a very clean engine, the oil stays clean so I dont think its needed.
Once you do the initial big flush and are happy with the improvements I would drop back to alternate treatments,I dont think the TDi motors tend to glaze anything like a japper.

the tdi will glaze if not loaded, let me clarify it by saying MY tdi300 does glaze the bores if it isnt loaded. after a trip pulling the camper trailer or hauling some other heavy load, you can definetly feel the difference. Never had a jap diesel so cant compare apples with apples on that front.
i have found it more noticeable when using fuels other than those supplied by bp or shell.
i now only use those two brands unless there simply is no choice.
i wouldnt be using the oil treatment for cleaning the oil etc in a td5 either, no need, they have a centrifical filter BUT i would be very interested to see how the td5 compares on the glazing front to a tdi300.

I just used it on my Tdi, it's got just on 300k now and i didn't see any extra gunk come out , however the engine now runs smoother is not as noisy and seems to pull a bit better at high revs. I'm using there fuel treatment too and can't notice much difference, chemtech was just as good next i will be trying the pro-ma fuel treatment as there oil additive is great.
All up i think the CEM engine flush is pretty good but if you do regular oil changes with quality oil you shouldn't need it, not for a couple hundred k anyway. Wouldn't mind trying there AW10 anti friction stuff though.
isnt it better to use it more often in order to keep it all clean internally.....?
rather than to let the crap build up and then loosening it all to run through the engine....?
only drawback with this is....you wont know if its doing anything cause you wont feel any difference.......

Yeah but if you do regular oil changes the engine shouldn't gunk up in the first place as the oil will clean it, thats what i meant. My disco has had oil every 5k since new and there was as i said no gunk. It is a bit smoother though.
If you bought s/h and didn't know the engine then i would say definatly go for it as then at least you know it's not all gunked up with crappy oil and sludge.
