    noise front left wheel

    Hi,

when I go down hills and I take the foot off the throttle I get that humming noise from the front left. As soon as I hit the clutch or switch to neutral it's gone. It usually happens between 80 and 90KM/h.
I got new tires today and no change (not that I thought it would make any). It gets worse in corners I think but that might be just me. I don't think it's the wheel bearing as it is only doing it when you're in gear.

    Any suggestions ?

front diff pinion, propshaft or front output bearing/seal would be my openers....

but I wouldnt discount the wheel bearings/cv yet... lift the front wheel and see how it feels.

You might also be listening to a gearbox/clutch noise that is reflecting so that you think its coming from the front.

does it do it in all gears?
    certain speeds?
better/worse when on the noise or engine braking?
    hi/low range?
    diff lock isnt stuck on?

I have no idea Mat, I couldn't hear it the other day I guess because I may not have been going fast enough...You housing STILL hasn't arrived! I'll remind myself to ring them tomorrow.

If you feel like dropping in and letting me have a listen tomorrow, It'll be fine. tomorrow would be preferable to Friday, which is shaping up to be a horror day though.

From all the things you mentioned it sounds like a job for JC.
This car really makes me thinking. I really try to drive carefully just in the hope nothing else breakes
I might need a new job to get this car fixed

    front noise

check front prop shaft uni joints and check them well! had the same sort of thing happen coming down from Mt Hotham into Harrietville suspected the uj's checked under the car could find no movement, just by trying to move the joints. carried on into some very remote country at Falls Creek ( I was working for PV baiting foxes) anyway to cut a long story short I was very lucky it only cost a new propshaft. about $500 if I remember right
