    Defender a frame joint.

    Which is the easiest way to check aframe joint wear.? By your self?


    Crow bar?

    my methods a bit harsh but works well enough..

    making sure the backs empty so the sound wont be damped or caused by something else

    start out by reversing slowly, while its still rolling backwards select first and then slip the clutch at idle...

    you could also just pull on the handbrake...

    then if you get a healthy CLUNK from the back end your aframe ball needs retightening or replacing depending on what youve got.

    you can crow bar em but its hard to get one in that will find the movement while the vehicle has weight on the axle..


    if you get a little clunk then its time to find a hoist and have a proper look.

    Thanks Mate, it does appear to clunk when reversing back, stop & move foward. Had a lot of weight right on the tail end the other day and it didn't seem as bad. That had me thinking it must be that a frame ball.

    Its a 96 130 ute would they be adjustable on them?

    couldnt tell you off the top I havent worked out the rhyme or reason as to which ones have and havent got the adjusting ones unless they are fitted as aftermakret by previous owners.. Its been my experience the the lighter loaded they are when you do the reverse to forwards trick the worse they sound and loading them while it doesnt actually stop the knock it lessens it (but thats mainly been bodied deefers and a couple of discos.

    The adjustable aframe ball is available as an aftermarket item
