It shouldn't be a concern. There's usually oil residue through the intake hoses on the 300Tdi & TD5 engines.
While changing the clutch cylinder today I notice some nasty black oil on the bottom of one of the intercooler hoses.
Somebody give me the bad news.

The oil is what softens the factory intercooler hoses & causes them to suck in. I have yet to see a clean one.
Scott
I havn't found a clean one either. First time I found it there I panicked!
Hi Simon
How soft are the hoses????
If the 2 on the turbo side are jelly like compared to the outlet side get a new set of silicone hoses, its costing you horsepower.Have you got more turbo lag than you remember when you first got the beast????
Just done mine, its a different vehicle to drive.

As a fellow TDi owner, I can say all is sort of OK- generally its only the clips that hold the pipes that need tightening . Take all three hoses off, give them a degrease on the inside, (May as well degrease the intercooler too) clean up the connections and consider new jubilee clips or ( my favorite) Heavy duty pipe clips They use nut and bolt to tighten and are available via CBC or bearing suppliers. You now know about blowby in a TDi - well it collects at the joins of the pipes and on high boost, there sometimes is leakage past the jubilee clip. Since the oil is sitting there, it gets forced out first. My bottom intercooler hose bits lasted about 235k from new, and I, like LandyAndy, invested in a silicon replacement. They are good, but the 90 degreee bend ( in 50mm) is pricey. The straight joiner near the intercooler is relativley cheap, which sort of balances things out. At the time I couldn't find silicon to replace the top hose, there may be somthing new on the market now.
