I have the unit bipassed at the moment.
The thing I do not understand is now the air con "auto" mod has one setting, make it freeze!!!
All i Think I did was bypass the heater core, so whey is it super chilling me!!
I keep reading your threads Ron, and I definately do not go check my rangie. I can't afford to fix it, so I don't wont to know whats wrong.

Keep with it, the P38 is a great vehicle (repeat 50 times a day looking in the mirror)

I can't remember what I was quoted for the core - about the same as you. Your info about bypassing is interesting. I was goint to try that.

I was thinking of buying an old 200Tdi Disco as a second vehicle and replacement for the County but I keep telling myself purchase price + insurance + rego = a fair bit of maintenance on the P38A.

The P38A is a nice car to drive.

I drove a near-new 4.2 litre turbo diesel GU Patrol about 100 km on Friday over roads I drive regularly in the P38A.

The GU was rough riding and the brakes were appalling in comparison. I had to brake hard on one occasion and I thought I was going to run up the rear of the car in front whereas in the Rangie it wouldn't have been a problem.

The roof lining has to come out (and all the door pillar trims and the seat belts), then the sunroof frame can be unbolted and removed, then the broken runner can be unscrewed from the frame!

Good news!

I picked up the runner for the sunroof yesterday and today, when I looked at the rear end (of the new runner), I noticed there were no screw holes. So a look under the roof lining with a torch revealed the rear of the runner slides and locks into a clip. I don't need to remove the roof lining!

Whoo-hoo! I'll have it all back together tomorrow - especially thanks to Scouse for letting me use (and delivering to me today) his new rubber seal to finish it all off. (I'll pay for the new one he'll order for himself.)

I can defer the recovering of the roof lining and door pillar trims.

I'm not sure, Jon.

I showed the trims to the flocker and he said the glue is very soft and that's why they are looking so shabby. The problem seems to be quite common.

One of the blokes on the rangerovers.net p38a forum said he cleaned the flock off with hot water. Another bloke recovered his in leather.

I'm tempted to try the leather look but flocking would be easier.

Sometimes I am tempted to cut my losses but what would I buy?

Anything new would cost me $60K+, anything low km second hand would cost me $30K+ (less, say, $8K if I sold the P38A). Add the interest on the loan and .....

That buys a lot of maintenance on my existing car which still looks good (or it will when I get it detailed and polished).
