Smile Welding on a Series 2 Discovery

    Hi,
I would like to do some welding on my TD5 series 2 disco front bumpstops.

If I disconnect the battery's will this be ok?

Is there any issues with the ECU disconnecting the power?

Obviously the clock and sterio would have to be reprogrammed and I would put the earth lead on the work itself so it was a close as possible.

    Cheers

Id be inclinded to disconnect the following in this sequence..

    1. battery earth
    2. battery pos
    3. alternator charge and sense plugs
    4. the main plug on the ECU

you can get away with out unplugging the ECU but the sake of 10 minutes work for potentially what $700-800 worth of black box if the lucas gremlin gets finnicky..

    Hi Piddler
If you have the earthclamp on the actual work and its cleaned to bare metal,so there is no tracking of the current looking for earth there shouldnt be a problem.
To be on the safe side disconnect as Blknight suggests.
I didnt disconnect anything when I welded up chassis cracks in the rear Xmember of mine recently,NO PROBS AT ALL!!!! But I had the welds and the earth clamp location cleaned to bare metal.
