    Starwheel adjustment

I read somewhere where a guy was saying to adjust the starwheel until the cover sits 2mm above the housing (with the spring and diaphragm/pin in place), before putting the 4 screws back. He also had the diaphragm/pin set to max fuel. Anybody else heard of this?

I know the deal with highway testing the smoke and EGTs but I thought this might be some sort of gauge.

    Starwheel adjustment

No, this is rubbish. The gap is dependent also on the stopscrew setting and I suppose there could be different springs used as well.

I had a look and my gap was nothing like 2mm.

Good thing I replied to my own post or no one would talk to me!

this is what you do to build up number credits, a bit like vlad trying to catch up to aces 10,000 plus posts.
As an old workmate of mine used to say be economical with speech , because you never know when you may have to talk a lot. ( of course we both worked in a training unit at the time)

or perhaps your post is more of a case of most peoples common problem , talking to yourself , then giving youself the answer.
in your case you have been caught!!!

But of course your question would mean nothing to the petrol drivers!!

    Thanks John,

That may be what others do to build up points, but I have no interest in points. They don't make you stronger or richer or compensate for anything else you lack.

Mine was actually a serious question and I wanted to know if others had heard of this. The problem is that when you get a second hand vehicle, you don't know for sure what your starting point is with pump adjustments and whether someone else has had a go.

Seems that 2mm is unreasonable after looking at my pump this morning. And then the logic hit me that it wasn't as simple as the guy was saying and that the gap is dependent upon more than the starwheel.

I thought I would just share the finding, that's all - and score one more point - yipee!

good work at least now your talking to someone and not yourself.
I got lost in the funny side of the orginal one and couldn;t help myself,

Anyway what I was going to say was someone, can't remember who, posted something similar on the the old site, or maybe it was this new one. It had a link on it i think to the adjustment process etc.
The best I did was take the cover of the top pull the spring loaded thingy out clean it and put it back in again. Wasn't game to do do anymore as too many were talking about getting more power for more smoke and a higher EG temp. Plus to get to the adjusting screw was too fiddly.

Anyway after all that, i know what you mean. been there done that.
For my money I would let an expert do the tweaking,( I did when i had the rubber band changed) I think there are too many variables to consider if you do it yourself.
Seriously if your having a power problem like I was, a good timing belt changer will solve it, as happened to me, mine goes like a petrol motor now( in comparison to how it had been going), with a heap more power.

I think you might have a point about the belt but it is only 30K old. I'm waiting a little bit longer.

    Cheers

Sounds like your going through the same sort of problems i initially had when i bought mine 4 years ago. That would be the only reason i would think of anyone looking at the fuel adjuster.
My first post was titled 'My disco is a slug', and i have seen others come onboard with similar problems.
It had 65k on the clock and the timing belt had been done as a waranty recall by a dealer at 60k. Aside from looking nice and driving nice it went like a dog , somedays you were flat out getting through a roundabout. When i got to the 160k mark in december i had it replaced by a recommended supplier (see the qld list, my reply is there) The man told me there was few things wrong with the timing ( like a tooth out on the belt) problem fixed.
