Weird front tyre wear on the defender!.

    Hi

Just noticed the right hand front tyre is wearing twice as quick as the left . Not that long ago i had a alighment done, and its not toe in or toe out wear, its wearing very even right across the tyre I will soon have a slick on one side Beauriepares did the work,Wonder if they know what their doing?. Have checked all tie rod ends joints, etc everything looks feels tight. Anyone know what might be going on?

    Thanks

    Sumo

The only thing they can adjust is the toe-in(out) and if that was wrong it would affect both sides the same. I can't visualise any alignment problem that would cause even wear right across the tyre - I assume it is even around the tyre as well? The only possibility I can see (apart from a defective tyre or one that is more worn than the other) is a dragging brake or wheel bearing - and I would have thought that would show other effects (pulling) before it showed tyre wear.

If the wear is NOT even round the tyre but is in one place, it is a bent or out of balance or loose wheel (or with dirt behind it), or a bent or damaged brake disc, or possibly a damaged wheel bearing. (or, again, but very unlikely, a faulty tyre)

Know what your saying, it drivesstraight as a die, NO noise, vibration, bearings are good its a strange one!!. It looks like axle alignment but you would think somethig would show up in the steering eh!.

    Cheers.

Yes, and as I said, its difficult to visualise anything that would give even wear on one tyre and not the other. Which does seem to bring it back to perhaps a tyre with soft rubber compound? Check whether that tyre is getting hotter than the other on a run, after making sure pressures are exactly the same.

Burnouts will generally spin the front left on a rover, unless you only spin the wheels around right hand corners
