get mr at redcliffe to do it....should be cheaper than that unless it hasnt been shimmed etc prior...
Is a timing belt swap a DIY job or am I better off spending the $700 to get it done by a pro??

MR quoted me between 600 and 800 depending on what they find in there. Im hoping they find gold so i can pay for it !!!!I think im going to do some ringing around. I dont know if MR are in the ballpark or not. I would like peace of mind with this however not some backyard shonkiness.
mmmmmmmm mine was only 450 when they did it, or there abouts....sounds like they are giving you worst case scenario, dont you know the history of the belt chages etc?

I know it was done at 70,000 but i dont know if it was an upgrade kit. Unfortunately mine is in the crook range of VIN's I'm at 155,000 now and its due for another change. I think the timing is affecting its total lack of pulling power as well. I think i'll just take it to MR, I had a look at the difflock page and im definately not going to attempt that myself.![]()
MR quoted roughly $1500.00 for a timing belt and major service.
Look to see if there is a small spacer on the rear mounting bracket of the injection pump, that is sometimes an indication if a mod kit has been fitted. This was to help correct the alignment of the pump. Probably needs pics so you know what i'm talking about - anyone have any on hand ??
Hey mick
yours too, mine was done at 65k, a recall i think, had the new one done in december at 165k. At least the bloke who owned it before me wrote all the details down in the log /service book.Funnily enough it was done by a dealer here in lismore that no longer exists however it too was going like a ride on mower for ages, no power and the usual stuff, usual story the dealer stuffed it up, i figured it was out by a tooth on the timing belt. Now i know why it only had 70k on it when I bought it,
Anyway took it up to Rick at Ricks 4wd at nerang. worth the drive, they quoted me 730 belt and and labour, it ended up costing me a bit over a grand, because rick being the thorough man that he is, found other things that needed replacing, things I would not have even worried about let alone notice.
Overall it was well worth it, and I got an apology from rick for taking so long, (didn't matter i caught the bus down to pacific fair so i wasn't in a hurry ) why, because with the dealer belt replacement, some dealer moron mechanic had loctited the bottom pulley on, he reckoned it took nearly an hour to get it of, now If i had attempted it myself, what special tools pullers would i have had at my disposal, none! i would have burnt it by now!
the result is a diesel that goes like the clappers, sits on 100-110 at 2250 revs, a lot less than before. and has amost wheel spinning power from the start. This is in comparison to what it was like before. Thats my plug.
