D1 clock removal

Fixed ... :D

The bulbs from Super Cheep work but I had to cut the original bulb out of the bayonet holder -it was soldered in.
Anyway it truned out not to be the bulb, but a dry joint on the clock PCB itself. I ended up pulling apart the whole clock. Word of warning : don't do this unless you absolutely have to. It is a bit of a pain to re-assemble.
On mine, the green colour actually comes from a green filter mounted directly behind the LCD screen - there was no sock over the bulb.

Oh ..and the credit card idea worked a treat tks....

Well then maybe mine didn't have the sock either?

I forgot the bulb was soldered in. I just reefed the bulb out with pliers.

I dismantled my clock too. As I didn't realise that the light works with the ignition and dimmed with the head lights. So when I was testing it with the ignition off and the headlights on the light didn't work even though it had 12v on the illumination wire. I lost the little display rubber conducting thing for a while. Found it on the floor eventually as I had dismantled it in the car.

Fun isn't it :)

Strange the bulb went on my 97 Disco's clock I remember and I just got a replacement and swapped them over, no soldering required. :confused:

Did your bulb come with the plastic screw in base or just the bulb?

The Super Cheap ones come as just bulbs. I didn't solder mine back in just jammed it in good and hard.

From memory I just got a bulb. Which ever, I do recall just popping the old bulb (or bulb unit) out and the new one went into its place. I think I remeber it was the same bulb as the cigar lighter shroud.

Damn I misread the title and was going to suggest to give them a Toyota to drive :D :D

The correct bulb and holder isn't that expensive from LR or Peugeot or any other Euro manufacturer or even from Narva.

If you get the right one from a P38A, you can just replace the bulb as necessary. I show them here: http://www.rangerovers.net/repairdetails/binnacle.html

I have been cursing Land Rover for many a year about no light in the clock on my Disco, and how stupid that was. Never worked from new!

Guess I better go and pull out the clock and see if I can get it going. Thanks for all the info on how to get it out.
