    D1 clock removal

Hi all easy one for ya - the illumination bulb in the clock has blown.
Is there an easy way to get the clock module out without removing umpteen other bits first ?
Oh and what type of bulb is it - I read on a search that SuperCheep may have them is that true ?

Yes Supercheap have the bulbs. Its where mine came from. It is just the bulb though. You need to swap the bulb in the plastic bulb holder.

To get the clock out you pull the switch panel out from below it first and then the clock. Both come out by pulling forward from underneath. Should take you all of 2 seconds.

Just got the packet out of my car. It is a pack of two and is a 12v 1.2w T-5mm wedge.

I am assuming that the bulb for the ciggy lighter surround is the same. Either way I need to replace that bulb as well but haven't got around to it yet.

Yes and no - The clock can come out but the clips which hold it are hard to get at. I used two thin bread knives to push thru the top join about 5mm from each end about 3cm in. Much like removal of the radio, you have to wriggle the knife around to find the clip, then get the end inbetween the clip and the surround without breaking it. When the top pops out a bit, then do the same at the bottom. The illumination bulb is just an ordinary 12v wedge bulb, the same size as the parking light in the front headlamp. (But with a green silicon sock on it)

Instead of knives use an old credit card (old 'cause you'll stuff a new one) or similar thin piece of plastic. This will push in both clips at the same time.

My clock just clips in and out. It seems tight enough but is still easily removed. Better to be safe than sorry though I guess.
I don't remember the green sock. Must have just swapped it over though if there is one. Maybe I could go to Dick Smith and get some fancy colours

The Pug 307 trip computer-clock-radio station display thingy is the same.
If you turn your head sideways it becomes visible again - gets funny looks from people in other cars though

Its all to do with the polarizing screen over the display in the unit. If it goes in the right way to your sunnies they cancel each other out.
