By putting sealant into the plug end, it may not seal the crimp on the wire to the connecting lugs/
The sealing needs to be better at the injector end.

Yeah! it's not an original idea I'm sure but I was prompted by the attached youtube vid. I agree with you that the injector leads will wick too but was "hoping" to stop the oil at the main connector. Interestingly they say that the injector plugs are not effected - the only thing that I'm sure of is that time will tell ;)[ame="https://youtu.be/UZULKjoVxsI"]https://youtu.be/UZULKjoVxsI[/ame]

I recod my old harness after I fitted a new one by sealing the plug with araldite after leaving it for a year to drain.


In addition I placed bare crimp connectors on each of the wires from the injectors, and soldered the ends of the wires on the plug side of the connector. I then sealed the ends of the crimp connectors on the plug side with liquid electrical tape, to prevent any oil getting in there.


I then placed shrink tube on the connectors but left the injector side open, the theory being that any capillary action would drain out at the connector.


Only trouble is that my ECU is dead dry with the new loom for 2 years + now , and I only checked yesterday so I haven't yet tried my fix! LOL

Lucky! Because araldite will dissolve in the heat and enter the engine!

And which one would that be Bob? My Araldite Product listing doesn't have a product specified that high...

Bob.. Why did you drill holes? Why not just remove the seal (non destructive)

You wont find it in an Araldite product listing because The RIGHT STUFF is a PERMATEX product. And it's not always readily available off the shelf so depending where you shop for your automotive products it'll be a special order.

.... a good point and i read that another poster had done that but given the amount of accumulated dried mud and crap that was in the bottom of the box where the ECU is mounted in the end I thought it prudent to keep the seal in place. As you see the holes are in the socket wall where the oil pools however they are covered over (shielded) when the plug is pushed home and with about a 0.25mm gap between socket wall and plug skirt to allow any oil to pass. In keeping with the topic it's a "different idea"

I knew I checked that before using it.


Seeing it is only used for potting not gluing I didn't see that as a big problem.
