TD5 new ECU & temp gauge reads backwards

Just fitted a new ECU (NNN500020) to a 2003 Defender, the temperature gauge now reads in reverse. It sits in the middle when cold & moves towards the blue when running.

Any one had a similar problem?

NNN500020 seems to be correct for the Defender.

Tombraider can probably help on this one I'd send him a PM.

It's a D2 ECU map instead of a Defender one. Do you still have the original map files

Just a thought, seeing as it's DC ... any chance of reversing the polarity??

As I said, merely a thought

Just re-read your post and realised you installed a new ECU. Same thing applies it's been mapped for a Td5 Disco and not a Td5 Defender.

You can get it reprogrammed to the correct vehicle map (I'd also get it upgraded to the improved fuel map at the same time).

I just fitted a ecu (same as you). The car seems fine, but I don't have a tacho. Maybe the engines running backwards

Hmmm, does that mean the ECU can be modified to have the temp gauge read differently? I know there has been some probs with TD5 temp gauges reading hot once terminally hot.
    Cheers

For a D2, this is due to the programming in instruments rather than the ecm. The temp signal going into instruments is valid as described in the WSM. The same applies for the faulty high temp warning light (it appears that only the TD5 is faulty - instruments knows the engine type installed so its feasible) which is activated by interpretting the same temp signal.

My understanding from reading the Rovacom information about this is that a different vehicle variant map can be loaded into an ECU like the NNN500020 depending on whether it is for a Defender or a Discovery. Also the vehicle maps vary for auto and manual and a few other things - like the temp gauge! Also some ECU's come vehicle neutral and only know about the Td5 and need to be loaded with the correct map files.

Someone like tombraider needs to jump in here and outline the information further.

    Did someone call my name

Yes, thats exactly the issue... You've loaded a discovery profile/map onto a defender ECU OR did you buy the ECU second hand or was it in an unsecure state when purchased?

Load a Def map and all will be fine.

    Cheers
