    Another Windscreen leaking

I know it is a bit of a standard question, but I need some new ideas. I recently got the windscreen removed to get a heap of rust cut out, as there was water leaking into the driver's side footwell. With a new windscreen in and it all nicely fitted and it is still leaking. It can't be air-con vents as I haven't run them for a while. Any "new" suggestions for me to try and stop the water?

    Matt.

    Hi Matt
I just went through this with my 97 Disco and hopefully have fixed it.
One of the guy's on here mentioned four plugs under the carpet towards the front of the foot well.
Have a look as they are covered with tape.
The tape was coming off and the plugs were loose in the holes so I removed them and stuck them back with silicone.
Just waiting for the next rain to test them out.

    Hope this helps

There's a place down here in Sydney (Condell Park - Bankstown) that do alot of the warranty claims for the LR dealers. Guy to talk to is Frank... really helpful over the phone... I had problems with my defender and they fixed them up and gave me heaps of tips to fix them myself.

Thanks so far. I will try those plugs again, I tried that test out before and it didnt seem to be coming from there, but I'll try it again. As for rain, Im being drowned in it at the moment.

are you sure it's your windscreen?
has your car been offroad (i'm guessing by the fact you're on this forum that'd be a yes)
if your carpets just get wet and you can't see where

I'll let you in on a secret
pull back you carpets and get someone to shine a torch at the sheetmetal of the footwell / firewall (inside the car) and go under the car and look at the body to chassis mounts and be amazed at all the cracks
that'll be where your water is coming in

I've never looked at a pre 99 disco that has seen any off road work and not found cracks in the firewall around these mounts, I welded all mine up and reinforced, I know others who have just sealed with non-acid silicone
if/when the cracks get bad enough the radiator support mounts crack to (mine did)

I'll do that for a try. As for the carpet, it's been out for months while trying a few things.

My windscreen (1997 build Disco) leaks from the sides of the windscreen. I used a spray bottle and lifted up the rubber mouldings and sprayed in there. I eventually saw a trickle come down the side wall in the footwell. Does it on both passenger and driver's side. Have been too lazy to put some selastic/silicone/whatever in there but I keep meaning to do it.

Now, I don't know exactly which point it leaks in - that is, near the top, middle or bottom somewhere, but it definitely does leak when I spray water in the the A-pillar.

Also, a trick people seem to use is to spray the water with a little bit of detergent in it, then use an air comporessor from the inside and blow the air out. The detergent will bubble and you'll know that's the leak. Not too handy if you don't have a compressor though.
