    V8 Valley Cover Gasket

    Hi Guys, need some advice
I have got everything back together after doing the heads, timing chain, cam and lifters. She fired first go and is running well, idling a little high, but well.
The trouble I have is the valley cover gasket, it was an absolute ****** to get on and now it is leaking water
What are my options, liquid chemiweld additive to try and stop the leak, or do I pull it off and have another go
    Thanks,

Er you didn't do what I did once did you?
That is there is a front and back to the gasket, even though it looks like there isn't.
The front has "front" stamped on it. I now write "FRONT" in big black texta.

Just to second what jimbo110 said,
Every time I've tried to rush putting the inlet back on the rover V8 it leaked in some form.

Spend the time to get it really clean, remove all the old sealant especially from the mating faces and use sealant on assembly.

I guess sealant on a Rover is a personal choice thing but I have used the Nissan Fluid Gasket for about 20 years on Rovers and its always stopped the leaks. Yet it's very easy to remove a component and the old sealant will wipe off with finger pressure many years after it's been on.

The manufacturer/part No is THREE BOND 1218 or from Nissan its called Nissan Fluid Gasket 1218B. It's cheaper to buy it as THREE BOND but I haven't seen it in too many places.

    Best regards

Blue Hylomar is what Rover recommends, and I use it and have no water leaks.
It comes as spray and tube. The spray is great as you can get it even all over the gasket mating surfaces but no too thick so that it doesn't squeeze into the ports.

    I'm going to go insane

Hi guys, it's still giving me grief
Philip I had read another of your posts about making sure the front is at the front, so no porblems there. I got a can of Hylomar, pulled it all apart, reassembled with enough Hylomar and RTV to make sure it's not going to leak and turned the key, cranked over fine, but no go
now I have no spark, checked all the connections and got the multimeter out and according to the tests the dizzy pickup is not working, infinite resistance, manual says it should be 2-5Komhs. Am I just really unlucky or is there something else I should check.
Also my dizzy is a lucas 35DM8, manual says it is a 35DLM8, the amplifier is mounted remotely somewhere, not on the dizzy as pictured in the manual.
Is this a LR mod or has someone else fiddled with my Disco??

Sounds like you are really unlucky.
Just check that the sensor wire from the coil neg to ECU is connected. In my 92 Range Rover it is in the sub loom to the MAF, but may be different on yours as you have the plastic airfilter.
I do not know the layout of a Disco , but if its not on the dizzy, it may be on the coil.

Unlucky??? Just part of the Land Rover Experience
I'll get a new pick up and see if that makes a difference, will check over all connections again. I drove the damn thing into the garage and it only took 3hrs to remove and refit the inlet. Just find it hard to believe that this would fail now , still think I have dislodged something, but the tests show power to the coil but no signal, so pick up seems viable, hoping its not the amp, where is the amp located, anyone???
I hate electrickery stuff would much rather fix mechanical things, I can see when a pushrod or a bearing is busted

    Discobunny,
Have you got access to the Land Rover workshop manual? There are 6 ignition tests that can be done. The amplifier appears to be screwed to the side of the distributor according to the book. If you don't have a manual perhaps there is someone near you who has.

Recently my Disco refused to start and it seemed to be a dirty connection on the low tension circuit next to the coil (not on top of it). A shake and a waggle and a liberal drenching of CRC seemed to fix it. A mechanic I know said that most electrical faults they had in their Jaguar dealership were usually traced to dirty connectors.

    Cheers Chazza

PS I could email the tests to you, but I might be hard to catch today.

Thanks Chazza, I have the Rave CD. The tests indicate the dizzy pick up is NFG, just find it odd that it was working before I pulled the manifold off and resealed it .
My dizzy is the 35DM8 with a remote amp, just how remote is what I want to know The manual list the dizzy as 35DLM8 which has the amp on the side. A google search indicates that some came with the 35DM8, some with the 35DLM8. The remote amp means there is no issues with heat.
If it doesn't start tonight, anyone want to buy a Disco with a rebuilt top end
