Driving the fender home and it frightened the hell out of me, the dam throttle sticks when you give it a boot full...
after jamming my foot under it and lifting it back up it didnt play up for the rest of the way home..
at home i lifted the bonnet to have a lookeesee and notice fuel leaking from the throttle linkage..
other than this and the driveline slop i was already aware of, it seems to go really well....
is this leak easily fixable? or is it going to be a painful experience?

The last problem before I got the new pump was arterial diesel pumping out of the top of the fuel injection pump. There is a seal (about $30) that could have stopped the leak.
There isn't a connection as such between my fuel leak and pump rebuilding.
Rebuild I was quoted about $1200 I think I bought the new pump for about $1700 shipped from UK. New pump from Karcraft was about $2300.

I think they are a similar pump as fitted to LandCruiser and Patrol diesels (earlier type, not TD). If so, your friendly Toyota dealer should have genuine seals and o ring gaskets for the top of the pump. I have repaired a mates Maverick like this, easy job with a little bit of patience and cleanliness.

The bigest probem you get with the defender is the throttle pedal gets stuck. What happens is the bolt on the back of the pedal (which is there to adjust how far you can put your foot down) gets caught on the rubber mat and as it has a thread it just get caught and all you can do to get it back up is to do as you did and put your foot under the pedal and pull it up. Normal caused by the mat moving forward a bit in the well. As there is a small cut out of the matt for the bolt and if the matt moves forward it will get caught
So check that that is not the problem
