    Rangie door lock busted

I just busted my door lock. 93 RR with central locking.
I just turned the key to lock the car, the keyless locking hasn't worked for a while, when I felt a little bit of resistance. Thought nothing of it, and it unlcok OK later. But when I went to lock it again , the key now just turns aimlessly. The passenger door has done this since I got the car, but it was never an issue as the central locking still worked fine. HELP, now i can't lock the car at all.
I removed the door trim, and can see where the little plastic disc has broken, does anyone know if these can be replaced or if not what I can do to regain the safety of locking the doors.

The only thing I can suggest, is move to an area where you don't need locks.
Walk down the main street of my town, 3 out of 4 cars parked in the street still have the keys sitting in the ignition. My circle of friends, we know if our ute has been borrowed by a mate, because the fuel tank has been filled.

Other than that,if a chain and padlock around the door pillars is out. I suppose new parts are pricey, and made of "unobtainium" anyway. Try every auto wrecker you can annoy.

If the offending missing part can be fabricated up from a substitute material, or, door lock clips are fairly standard, if some other manufacturer's part can be made to fit. That would at least stop your lock from spinning in the wind, so to speak. Dr Edward De Bono wrote a book on lateral thinking. Take a good look at the shape the item needs to be, will another similar item fit? Can a Ford or Holden part be modified with a file, just enough to do the job?

Leaving out the attempted levity, I hope some of this might at least get you out of bother.

Sounds like a trip to the wreakers to me and get another lock assy ive just made up sum new outer door handles for rangies and 1 of my trucks has a simlar problem but its not the disc on the back of the lock barrel thats broken it is somthing with the linkage as the key still turns the disc and moves the linkage rod but the rod is not moving the rest of the linkage and its in a bitch of a spot behind the glass runner so its on the back burner for now as the truck is not in use atm good luck with yours all the best

I have just had a look on the parts system and I can't tell what the plastic disc you are refering to is. Is it the bit that goes on the back of the key barrel with the link rod connected to it?

Not sure if a link rod attaches to it or not, mine's got a bit of disc missing, but it does make sense. It's the last disc on the barrel, it has a bump to operate a micro switch, central locking I presume.

I have the same problem on my 95 disco, there is two grey plastic pieces that fit on the back of barrel of the door lock.

The first one had a linkage attached, the second one is roundish and fits inside the first. the second one is the one that is called an actuator cam and it opperates the micro switch for the central locking and it is also the one that breaks.

And according to my local Land Rover dealer you have to buy a complete door handle and lock for around $300. I have tryed a number of wreckers around NSW and can find one that will sell just the cam. So if anyone has one or knows someone who can supply one please PM me.

PS. THE CAMS ARE COLOR CODED TO SUITE DIFFERENT MODELS. I HAVE A PHOTO AND A DIAGRAHM OF THE PART IF ANYONE NEEDS IT.

I'd love a copy of the photo and diagram please.
I've just got back from my dealer who says they maybe available, part no STC1219 or STC1220. Will cost in excess of $40 ea for a small plastic disc.
If I'm able to get a picture of what it is supposed to look like I may try to make a couple.
