    Ticking

    Hi,

I have just noticed a ticking from my front left. Its definately not a stone and when going extremely slow it is a double tick and only occurs with the wheel rolling.

When i get a chance i will jack the car up and spin the wheel and see what happens.

I had the front barings re-packed a couple of months ago so think it is related to that.

Any suggestions as to what it could be or has anyone had a similar situation??

    Thanks

Not the dreaded tick, remember cut the red wire first.

mine ticks from the rightfront, haven't touched the bearings, i think it is from the stupid chrome caps on the wheel nuts, no it definately is the chrome caps, just went out to check, two of them floppy and make the tick noise when i flicked them
Stupid tyre changer used a truck rattle gun on them and made them so.
BTW mine has the, I have lots of money alloy rims, not sure if you have the steel ones, as the wheel nuts are different on them.
Ahh wish it was all that easy.

Last time I heard something like that (not a Landrover) it was a cracked wheel - that took weeks to identify. More common is a loose wheel (these are also more common on the left, as the nuts tend to tighten if loose on the right)

So that's the go with the dinky little prop shafts is it? You cable tie them so they won't part.
We used to chuck ticking things in a bucket of water, then, RUN AWAY. But, that was during the Vietnam War.

    Levity over, serious now.
If she wanders around the road a bit more than normal, yeah, check your wheel nuts. If it turns out to be a cracked rim (steel?), weld her up mate. It won't let go on the weld. Right beside the weld later, yes, but not on the weld. If it is an Alloy wheel. Only one question. Why? They look pretty, but, they are not really much more than bling. I've had mag wheels break big time on me, in competition, very nasty. And any road going vehicle, is not scrutinised like a comp vehicle. Beware of mag wheels, boogey man things, them. My opinion only of course.

I recall we've both agreed on those damn alloys before- and I've related my horror story before.......suffice tosay I don't think they've got any place on a truck that ever goes off road! [Except on sand only!]

Yep, and yep again, Byron. With the magnificent quality of our Aussie roads, Alloys are not good.

Drive a Series model, with steel wheels, they don't need roads.

    Shorty.
