May as well add a similar question. Has anyone had experience with a Roverdrive - an epicyclic overdrive with mechanical engagement made in Vancouver, Canada. See www.roverdrives.com

I know Ray Wood (the guy who makes the Roverdrive) personally, and it is a good product and well made. May be some supply delays at the moment because the casing mould was broken about 6 months back...

However personally, I don't understand why anyone would need anything taller than the standard 5th gear on a defender????

Re Ben/isuzurover's comment "I don't understand why anyone would need anything taller than the standard 5th gear on a Defender."
Probably applies to ones with 3.9 Isuzus. However, it seems many regard taller gearing desirable for high speed light load road work by Tdi's and TD5's.
I gather the high range ratio in LT230 transfer boxes with Isuzus in defenders is 1.003:1 and with Rover diesels 1.41:1. Apparently some have installed gears from Discoveries with 1.22 or similar ratio, which may cause inconvenience with first gear not low enough The new 2007 Defender have this ratio, along with a six speed gearbox with an extra low first gear.

Some Defender owners would regard an overdrive as a worthwhile option. Probably the major consideration is they should not normally cause trouble unless seriously abused or self destruct when they get old.
So comments about both GKN and Rocky Mountain overdrives that have done a lot of hard work would be appreciated.
