    Stupid Discovery Question

    I have just bought a 3.9 V8 Disco 95.
I have never owned a disco with A/c or V8 (as they have been in the uk and don't want or need either).
What does the black box shaped thing do , the one between the brake master and the head light on the inner wing , and No not the battery behind that and not the fuse box .So really between the master brake and the battery

Somthing to soak up vapors from the fuel tank, linked to emission control. When in use the vapors are sucked into the engine and burnt.

There is always the possibility you are talking about the radiator overflow bottle . Unless you have the new white one.

People have mentioned on here that you should swap your black one for a white one before it splits but I don't know what causes it.

Mines still the black one and doing fine.........touch fake woodgrain

mmm My 90 has a black one still, but was a bit worried when they said that the black one had split and they had to put a new one on a couple of months ago.
From where i am from when it needs a new one of them it means the engine has overheated and cracked it.

The problem with the old style [black plastic] ones are the type of plastic and the join of the two halves.......that's where it splits .....usually due to age/temperature/high pressure.

Of course, an engine/cooling problem that raises those factors above excessively will precipitate the reservoir splitting.

I'm surprised they replaced it with another black one[if I read you correctly] it must've been a used one!!!.......coz the white/translucent ones are the replacement/warranty only ones available new!
