    EGT Install

Whats the best way to fit an EGT thermocouple to a 200Tdi [Discovery]? I'm guessing due to the absence of a blanking plate the entire exhaust manifold needs to be removed. I will be entrusting the job to a mechanic, however is it possible to complete the job in situ or is the danger of crap falling into the turbo too high?

    Thanks in anticipation.

my mate had the same problem although he only had to enlarge the hole i think, he loaded the drill and tap up with grease and took it easy, no problem to date

dare i say it........................it was on a 100 series cruiser

It can be done without removing the manifold, just as Weeds says, by loading the flutes of the drill with grease. Likewise loading up the tap with grease when cutting the thread. If you're not confident you didn't drop anything in the whole, a cotton bud dipped in grease can be used to fish any bits out.

This is where I installed the thermocouple on a 200tdi Defender, but it's a bit easier to get to than a Disco:
