    Oils(Again) S2A 2.25 petrol

Ok...there's lots of oils and lots of theories...I am about to change oil in the following and want to stick with the same oils and build up a good service routine.

    1.Gearbox
    2.Transfer case
    3.Fairey overdrive
    4. Diffs Rover
    5.Motor
    6.brake fluid

    What's the best choice......

    Opinions please...

    cheers

What I use in my S2A

    1.Gearbox Castrol (EP 80W/90)

    2.Transfer case (EP 80W/90)

3.Fairey overdrive Dunno. Never had one.

    4. Diffs Rover (EP 80W/90)

5.Motor Shell Helix 20W-50 Use the one for 'Older Engines'
Castrol may do a similar oil.

6.brake fluid Castrol Dot 3 I think it is.

    G'day OLR-067

I would agree with most of 4bee's suggestions but would suggest the following as that is what I run in my vehicle

    Engine: Penrite 20w-50w

Brakes: Castrol heavy duty (Dot 4) specs

Fairy O/drive: same as Gearbox and Transfer EP 80w-90 Castrol.

    Swivel Hubs: EP80w-90w Castrol

    cheers

    Gday Fellas,

Yeah I basically run the same at moment.

    ep90 in diffs
    ep90 in swivels
    ep90 in gearbox
Ep90 in overdrive with 100ml of moreys stabiliser
Shell Helix 50 in motor..think from memory
    shell in brake..

on the overdrive not entirely sure of the max level....on the dip is a notch about 1/3 from bottom..i assume that is min level...generally have been running about 80% to top...not sure if overfilling..then again excess should go to TC....from the superwinch manual it says fill up ...with the figure of what looks like 400ml...i thought it was 500ml..

    cheers

The Fairey overdrive specifies the same oil as the gearboxes etc, but will benefit from synthetic gear oil.

The engine is not particularly fussy, as long as it gets changed regularly. I would agree with the above recommendations.

Overall, you have to remember that the engine was designed in the mid fifties and the drive train ten years earlier (parts of it go back to the early thirties) and any appropriate oil you can buy today will be better than anything the designers imagined, even if you get the cheapest you can find! But don't go too light in the engine - clearances are less than for a modern engine.
