			Piston Slap in V8

I have a Rover V8 in my stage 1 that has done about 100000 ks and Im pretty sure that it has a bit of piston slap when its cold.
The noise sounds like a hollow shallow knock but disapears when it warms up
It performs fine and uses no oil should I be concerned about it?

depends if you want to see the conrod sticking out of the block or not??

the old rover motor will run for ever and a day, thats what they usta say, but alot of them are getting quite long in the tooth now.
what do you want to do with it? if its a daily driver, rebuild or replace?
its hard to say how detrimental it could be if its that..

might need to investigate further.

cheers phil

My stage 1 did that for 30,000 klm over 6 years and never got worse.
It was still like that when I sold it

My 130K V8 motor also has/had a bit when cold.
You can hear it louder than in a steel engine because of the alloy block.

I recently found that it was quietened by switching from 5W-50 Mobil 1 to a thicker winter rating oil 15W-50 .

So if you are using a low winter number oil switch to a higher cold rating.
Apart from that I think its harmless.

					Thanks Guys
Phillip I am running Penrite 20-60 I went around and saw Big John this arvo
and I think we concluded that it was in the bottom end more than piston slap.
I have a 82 SD1 engine that has been recoed 30000 ks ago
I dont want to replace it but I guess I am resigned to doing so.
Thanks

My 3.5's got this issue, it's had it for about 60 odd thousand k's.
It's noticable when cold, and under load, so I didn't boot as much these day's.
I feel it's something that wouldn't cause you much grief provided you understand, that your motor aint what it used to be.
