Your t/case is possibly an LT230Q, which has the quiet gears. I'm not convinced the smaller teeth of the quiet gears are as strong as those in an LT230T, infact I doubt they are.

The LT230T in my disco is quiet enough for me. But you may be able to keep your quiet gears and get the centre diff lock. By swapping just the parts needed for the diff lock, from the disco I box to the disco II box.

The downside is, the value of the left over LT230, without diff lock will plummet.

According to the manual/part numbers it is an LT230SE - 41D, the Q's had a speedo drive/gears on it, plus a few other bits were changed.

I am not sure if mine has quiet gears or small teeth ........not sure how I could check.

There is a company in the UK who can supply a whole kit to convert me existing TC over - it's up to about $600 + shipping.

The guys in SA said that a TC without a CDL has no basic resale value.....so that scuppered any idea I had as a trade in :(

I looks like using the LT230T from a D1 is just not practial, oh well back to the drawing board ;)

you should only need the front output housing from a CDL capable D2 i.e. up to 01 or 03/04. Try the wreckers - Triumph Rover in SA, British Offroad in QLD, you can even use a D1 output housing at a pinch.

My 1994 Discovery has the 28D prefix so is a LT230T

Yours is the 41D so also a LT230T

I'm guessing your info comes from the Disco2 CD while mine comes form the Disco1 CD. My CD doesn't even mention a LT230SE transfer case.

I'd disregard my info in relation to your D2. Although it might come in handy in relation to the D1 box you were looking at.

Yes it is from the D2 CD.

I am sure the info is helpfull - it's very confusing all these variants of the same TC.

I think I will just get the kit from ashcroft in the UK

We've had a couple overheat when used on long trips with loads. The finer teeth seem to run hotter than the coarse teeth. They do turn a nice shade of blue though :( .

Send a PM to CAL415. I'm sure he's had a D1 transfer case fitted to his V8 D2 to get the centre diff lock.

Scott, Cal415 has the Ashcroft 03/04 actuator in his 01 Disco which had the CDL in the Transfer case.

I thought he told me that Altos replaced the whole transfer case for him because his car didn't have the diff lock internals .

BTW, Mick's is an 02 Disco so it would not have had the internals fitted.
