Maxi Drive Portal Axle Drop Boxes

Hello from the other side of the world.

I have tried to get some information on these portals from Maxi Drive, but that has proven quite difficult.
After posting my questions in various forums 'Cols110' now suggested asking you.
Does anyone have these portals on their Defender (preferably 110) or has had them?
I am looking for all the information and experience with these portals that I can get.

Oh, and how could I get a price for these kits? I find it rather difficult to contact anyone at Maxi Drive.

    Thanx in advance.

    Cheers, Robert

Yes, contacting M-D can be difficult. The only M-D portals I've seen were being fitted by KLR Automotive in Sydney. I took these pics (and others):

    This pic is from M-D:

Designed for 16" wheels only too I think.. brakes won't clear 15". Deliberate on Mal's part apparently, I don't know why.

i never had any problem contacting maxi drive got back to me in about 4 days of emailing him, to which i then had graheam cooper on the phone calling me to talk to me about the problem as mel from maxi had called him and asked him to have a chat with us........

thought the service was really good actually.

so my suggestion would be give graheam cooper a call or send him an email as i think he is a main distributer for maxi

shoot him an email... but i must warn you, i'm fairly confident that maxi are no longer making portals... we have a member in the GCLRO who wanted them and has been told they're no longer available but i haven't personally asked Mal at maxi

What is happening with M-D? The business was (is?) for sale. I assume Mal wants to retire - and I can understand that. I'm also thinking of retiring.

Mal doesn't really do email. I have never had a problem contacting him by phone though - make sure you get the time zone correct though!!!

    Thanx for all the replies.

If MD really goes out of business, I will have to order them as fast as possible

What would an alternative be if I stay with my Defender?
I now about Marks kit for the Patrol, a friend of mine just ordered them for his Nissan.

Who could hand me the numbers of Mark and Graheam Cooper? I'll figure out the time difference from my current job site and then give them a call.

Is it true, that I have to use a Disco rear axle on the Defender when installing the drop boxes?

Another concern I have is durability. I am planning on using them for a expedition (hopefully for many more thereafter, too) where I need as much ground clearance as possible without mounting tires larger than 255/85R16, as the local shops can't handle anything larger and I wont ever get a replacement tire in larger dimensions.

How do these portals handle speed? What's the maximum they can handle on bad and really bad roads?

    Thanx, Robert
