I'm with you pedro. tuned extractors create a bit of a vacuum so the exhaust gases are sucked out, I will try to find out from some of the lecturers in the mechanics trade area to see if they can explain it so I understand

I recently removed that massive baffled box half way along the exhast in the middle of the car and replaced it with a Turbo something or other and it has absolutely transformed my 4Lt Disco. The car feels like it drives far smoother, better gear changing etc, and the fuel economy improvement has been fantastic. The in-car noise level is no worse and in fact at highway speeds is quieter and you also have the bonus of the car sounding like more of a V8 (without sounding like a hot rod) than a 6 cylinder falcon. The best $200 I have spent on the thing!

Save your money, there's bugger-all improvment overall I found. I had a 93 Disco a few years back and fitted extractors, $700 I could of spent elsewhere as it gave very little improvement.

The 76 Rangie I got has extractors, seriously thinking of ****ing them off as they hang down too low for my liking, rusty in spots and leak like a seive

or drop in a 6000hp top fuel donk and all the above will be applicable

so long as you can supply the juice at 10 litres per second!!!

there goes another Simpson Desert crossing, did it in 23 minutes!

Got any more info? Sounds interesting for when I need to replace my system.

OK this will probably not help at all but here goes: I talked to the trade light auto mech lecturers yesterday they all said that unless you are pullig huge revs ie drag car some back pressure helps none had a specific amount that they could give just that it was needed.

Their example was that of the little rice burners with turbos on them that get 3" plus exhausts with the megaphone at the end and big blow off valves - this actually makes the car slower over the 1/4 mile, it is all for show to cruise down the main drag and pose.

Oh and all said a flow through muffler first, then extractors and about a 2 1/2 to 2 5/8 pipe but it all depends on your driving style. Because they all know how I drive and how I play they all agreed I am better off with my set up (I agree as I have the benifits to prove it)

but if your not into pulling 5 1/2 grand plus playing then just go for the through free flow muffler and lose the box right at the end they really make a difference to performance as they create to much back pressure.

Did they tell you why you might want some? I have an idea in my mind, interesting to see if they agree.

things got a bit out of agreement at that point but general consensis was because it burns out valves just the level was argued about. And no-one could clearly explain why huge exhaust would make rice burner go slower but all agreed it would??

I think it is a wash over form old days but that is just my thoughts not anyone elses
