Thread: BFG AT's

I like the BFG AT's in the bush But I dislike them on soft sand... I do however run 45psi all the time ..I hate dropping tire pressure..Never staked one or had a flat.seem to wear OK too..As I do mostly soft sand driving I would not put them back on but if I was bush driving over stone and what not would consider them..

Running 245/75's

i have them fitted and am pretty happy with them, one screw let me down......literally, the rears copped a bit of chipping from doing the old ghan railway line, oodanatta and strzelecki tracks when they were brand new, but guess that would be expected. they have done approx 50K and should have somewhere between 10-20k left in them.

i will either replace with the same or find a tread pattern between the bfg AT and bfg mud

they're doing allright by me.

I've just completed a double crossing of the Simpson - Warburton Crossing, Rig Road then returned via Madigans Line & Hay River. We had 12 vehicles - 3 Discos & 9 Defenders - in the party 7 of the vehicles were running BFG AT's & 3 were running BFG MT's.

Pressures were regularly adjusted to suit the varying conditions from sharp & rocky to very soft sand where as little as a couple of PSI made a huge difference. All vehicles performed well and not one puncture was experienced in the 7000 kms travelled by each vehicle. Also there was negligible sign of 'chipping' even after - traversing some very stoney tracks & 'Development Roads' - probably due to correct pressures & sensible speed for the conditions.

I'm on my 4th set of AT's & am very happy with them. Some people swear by the muddies but I have found that they dig too much in sand and like most treads, they end up like 'slicks' in mud - I carry chains for real mud & have found that I can usually idle through with minimal track damage.

I'll be doing a 'Product Test Report' on the BFG's for our club newsletter - just have to unload & clean up from the Madigan Trip and plan a few more trips for the future before I pen the reports.

sounds like a good trip, i am keen to do the northern end of the simpson, did the rig two years ago

120000km's out of the last set and Ive just put a new set on and im more than happy with them.

They are not the best in mud but if you drop the pressures they are quite capable.

I have never had one chip as I have with Coopers and they are nice and quiet on the road aswell as very good for on road traction.

I havnt driven them in deep sand but on sandy tracks I have found them excellent.

Last set didnt get a puncture until they were buggered and I had 1 leaking at the bead and a bolt thruogh another.

I run 235 85 16 BFG AT KO 10 ply

I run 265/16's BFT AT's on both my Discovery and the 130. Disco steelies and Wolf's on the Defender.
Superb tyres.
I do mostly sand driving here in the UAE and have not experianced any problems with them coming off of the rims etc.
I've had a few nails going up inside the tread but I don't know of a decent raod tyres that can withstand nails!

Next time around....same again for me on both trucks.

Well, sounds like the thumbs up from most people, so I reckon they'll be the go.
