Tack some fencing wire to the nut - either leave it one or wiggle it off.
Works well.

Hi all,
Just fitted a safari snorkel on the fender, all went well till I had to fit the last nut, right up near the firewall.![]()

How did you get the nut on the last stud. You know the one, right up near the firewall .
Any ideas anyone?
I tought about taking out the inner guard and getting to it like that. but is it possible?
Cheers

Thanks Dave,
I thought of that, that would get the nut into position, only thing is that I need to be able to put a washer on it first, and also I need to get to it to tighten it with the socket set.
Geeze I hate modern vehicles for this..grumble...grumble....grumble, mutter....mutter
Great timing, I just fitted a safari to my defender on the weekend - gee what a task. Not so much because its technical but because its really hard to get in there to tighten the nuts. I found that if I undid the hoses first (and a small bracket) I could squeeze my arm right in under the gaurd/brake booster and do up the nut about 1/8 a turn at a time. A mission, but I got there in the end. Infact all the brackets were a mission, but with patience and a little colourful language I completed the task. I just hope its waterproof.

200 or 300 or td5???
200's are an absolute beast.....
300's and TD5 are ok.... well i had no problems
Further hint..
When you finish the install...
Take the top off the snorkel, run the engine on idle and put your hand over the top. Does the engine stall??? Yes??? then it is air and water tight?? No then you have a leak..... find it... a snorkle is useless with an air leak......
Camila knows that problem......

Thanks for the tip clarkie,
It is a TD5 with ABS. and the last nut is against the firewall behind a L shaped beem. I can just see it between the guard and ABS unit but I cannot get to it. Even with the tube out, I cannot get my hand to it. I could only JUST get to the two others, then I had to do that with a rest in between so as the blood could return to my arm!!
I have a look at the weekend and see what I can work out.
Thanks.
Well, got it done.
Undid the support bracket from the guard to the inner guard, and squeezed in there. Bloody hell it was tight, but atleast its in now and fixed firmly and properly.
thanks all
Mine is on with three nuts. I gave up trying to fit the last one.
