Defender doors popping open
Good evening
We have a 2003 Defender extreme and we have had alot of trouble( since new) , when we shut the doors they spring back. We have taken it to several
dealers who say they just need aligned, This works for a month and then they start springing back again. Does anyone else have this trouble, if so some help would be appreciated.

Hi, I had the same problem, if you can adjust the striker so that it works fine you're in luck. Otherwise, like in my 130, the mechanism is broken and the actual lock mechanism inside the door needs replacing. I adjusted the striker several times but it wasn't long before it happened again. Changing the lock mechanism is not that hard as a DIY, and I thought the part from LR was cheap at about $167, considering I once paid $38 for a nut for the TD5 acoustic cover!

If you have a look on the striker plate (the fixed part bolted to the main body - not the bit that swings with the door) can you see if the plastic cover/sheath on the pin is worn away? Mine have 2 spots where I can see the metal behind the plastic (or where the plastic used to be).
If this bit of plastic is not 100% the door will bounce back open to the first catch. Not sure how much they are, but I need 2 of them ATM.
I've tried pulling off the door covers to adjust the door part of the lock, but there doesn't seem to be anything to be gained by this. All the adjustment is in the stiker plate mentioned above.
